Expansion valves are notorious for clogging especially when A/C Compressors fail. They should be replaced when Compressor or receiver dryer replacement is necessary.

Receiver dryers have known to fail occasionally on the 900. Most failures occur because the Desiccant bag bursts and sends contaminants thru the entire A/C system. This can usually be identified by pulling the system apart and finding small pieces of a dirt like substance throughout the lines.
